Acne is the most common skin disease treated by physicians. It is a chronic condition that affects over 85% of adolescents and young adults. There are 4 factors that cause acne:

Plugging of the hair follicle
Excess sebum production
Inflammation in the pore
Presence and activity of Propionibacterium acnes

What is Zeno?
It is the last 2 factors that the Zeno Acne Clearing Device addresses. Zeno is a handheld, portable electronic medical device. It heats the skin up to 120 degrees for 2 ½ minutes which has shown to kill bacteria and cause the influx of heat-shock proteins. These proteins help kill the bacteria and reduce the inflammation in the pore. The heat is controlled by a small microchip that is good for approximately 90 uses. After 90 uses the cartridge needs to be replaced.

Zeno Tested

Zeno was tested in a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial (click here for a detailed summary of this trial) which showed subjective and objective improvement in the time to complete resolution of pimples and the time to improvement of pimples.

Zeno in Action

Zeno can be used up to 3 times a day on a pimple. The heat from the device can be felt but it is very tolerable. It does not burn the skin, but can leave a small red mark for up to 20 minutes depending on skin type.

Zeno Availability
Zeno is FDA approved for the treatment of pimples - red bumps or pustules. It does not treat comedones or the large cystic nodules. It is currently only sold at physician's offices because the company has trials on-going with the FDA to see if Zeno is effective for fever blisters and nail fungus. The results of these trials are expected out in approximately 18 months. Once these trials are concluded, Zeno will likely be available in stores.

Zeno Cost
Zeno currently retails for about $235.00 and the replacement cartridges cost $35.00. It is not covered by any insurance plans. For more information about Zeno and a list of physician's offices selling the device, visit www.myzeno.com.
